Amy Grant - Home For Christmas

Let me start by saying all I know about Amy Grant is her success in the early 90's. Baby, baby - I'm something something something..... yeah, that was also sung out loud in my Amy Grant impersonation voice. It was quite amazing, if only you could have heard it. So this is almost like listening to her for the first time. Since I don't really know her style or anything like that. I've gathered from references in pop culture that she's religious. Maybe even has some sort of tv show or something? I have no idea. Just spouting off at this point. So I'm going to judge this one based on Jewel and Mariah Carey. Jewel, because I figure Grant is a vocalist. It would seem to me that both of them should be on a similar plain in terms of vocal quality. Carey - well I gather that she's trying to make an upbeat adaptation album for the holidays. Carey seemed to have that market cornered with my previous review (from last week) but I want to see how this stacks up. My second time through this morning, it isn't quite stacking up to either. First and foremost, I think Jewel has a much better feel to it. And it could be for no other reason than I just don't know most of the songs on this album. Or they're done in such a way I don't recognize them. One of the two. Plus, her vocal doesn't show my ear the love that Jewel's did. On the Mariah front, well her album seems to be on of the best ever. (You know, in terms of Christmas albums) So that's a hard act to follow. I guess this one isn't for me, but I'm sure other love it. So sound off!

  1. if i had been drinking something, i would have done a spit-take at your " Baby, baby - I'm something something something..... "

that was hilarious. and i can't remember any of the words either. the only other amy grant song i can vaguely remember is a song about hats or socks or something. childhood friend had the cassette tape and listened to it (and wilson phillips) ALOT.

also, i will probably never seek out this album and listen to it. i would definitely opt for mariah first. i probably wouldn't even pick up jewel. but i wouldn't turn jewel off.

  2. "Breath of Heaven" is my all time favorite Christmas song. That is all.

  3. Every time I see her name, I think, "is she the one that shot Joey Buttafuoco in the face?" and then realize it isn't her.

  4. Jen - I'll have to listen to that one again.

Angie - HA. I know the situation, but no idea who it really was.

  5. I listened to Winter Wonderland by Amy Grant on this Christmas album and thought to myself, "Who is this? It is not Amy Grant." The voice here was so under par for her that even I, a fan since she was a kid, would not want to hear this song sung by her. It sounded very amateurish, and even kareoke-ish. Disappointing? Definitely. I'm not in the mood for Christmas now. Sorry about that, Amy. But Christmas is about telling the truth.
