Charlie Brown Christmas - Soundtrack

Week two of Holiday anthems rolls forward today with Charlie Brown Christmas. How hasn't seen the cartoon a million times? The only one I think I'd consider more iconic is Frosty The Snowman. Something about watching these cartoons when you were little makes you still want to watch them as an adult too. Maybe not for everyone - but I think I know a few people who still enjoy them. Regardless, this is another JenInTosa holiday specialty. She's got another two-fer coming up today! Hooray for Jen! Anyhow, this is a fun one. This is something you could put on as background music for your holiday party. Any kind of party. Put this on over dinner, having drinks with friends, opening up gifts. Very versatile. It has tracks that everyone can enjoy and would recognize. I think even if you never saw the cartoon, you'd recognize the Peanuts theme song. And for some reason, I think I've heard the 'Christmastime Is Here' version a billion times too. I think it was played in a couple episodes of Arrested Development. But I'm a sucker for the piano, which I think I've stated about a million times before. And most of this album is just jamming Christmas songs on the piano. Very classy. I feel like this could be playing at the Ritz Carlton lobby in any hotel across the world. Yeah, that classy. Very worth listening to today if you're still in that holiday spirit. Don't let in early, still a few days to New Years!

  2. 3.75 out of 5 is considered perfect on my holiday scale of rating.

Because in my mind, no holiday album will ever be a 5 of 5 like Led Zeppelin 4, or Nirvana Unplugged.

  4. i agree that this is a great christmas album...but christmas songs are meant to be sung! that's one reason why i wouldn't reach for this as one of my favorite christmas albums. i guess it would be nice background music though.

  5. most of my favorite renditions of christmas songs now are instrumental only. there are still great vocal tracks of course, but hearing different people all warble over and hack up their own version of 'the twelve days of christmas' (i'm looking at you, destiny's child...) or 'the christmas song' (everyone who's NOT nat king cole...) just gets old to me. plus i really listen to alot of jazz and lounge and the instrumentals are just ... jazzier, for lack of a better word.

BUT. i was so taken to the version of 'up on the housetop' from the hyundai commercials that i googled the artist (pomplamoose) and donated a book on amazon.com just so i could get the 4-song christmas album download.
