James Otto - Sunset Man

Good old Thursday. One more day until the last day of the week. And for me, no "real" work until the new year! Saving vacation until year end can have its advantages. I think I've said about a million times now that I didn't have any more strong Country suggestions. So JenInTosa (who I haven't heard from in a while, hopefully she's still reading!) sent me a bunch of artists. Jimmy Otto here being one of them. I certainly have never heard of him before. I'm finding out that he's from Washington state - which again seems to be another state I don't hear from too often. This is without total certainty, the first artist I remember looking at from that lovely west coast state. He's also one of the first members of the country MuzikMafia. What is that you might ask? Good question! It's a group of country artists who believe in music without prejudice. Some of the country I've been tuned into has been a little on the racist side - especially older stuff. Good to hear that artists are trying to take that whole aspect out of the genre. Good for them. Anyways, as I was listening to this - a few songs in particular have a very Big & Rich sound to them. And after looking into it a little more - turns out this album was produced by (you guessed it) John Rich. This guy has also joined the army, moved to Tennessee - all that stuff. Kind of boring. This was his second studio album, but the highest in terms of popularity. It certainly isn't offensive to any of my senses. It's pretty easy going country. If you're a country nut, take a solid listen. I think you'll enjoy it. It has a little mood/country aspect in some spots, and it's kinda nice.

  1. I'm still reading!!!!
I LOVED the song 'Just Got Started Lovin' You' when I heard it on the radio... it was one of those that I downloaded immediately and listened to on repeat. I love his smooth and sexy voice. I pictured him much older going by his sound (like I did with Josh Turner). When I got the CD (from my step-mom, who also got me a signed T-shirt) I was kind of disappointed. None o f the other tracks had the same effect on me. Maybe it's time for another listen... well, maybe when I'm done listening to Christmas albums!!!

  2. Yay! Glad to see you're still around!

As you know, I'm a sucker for those mood type songs, which a couple in my top 3 were. They stuck out just because of the arrangement - not so much the lyrics or anything.

I could see why to a country buff, this would be average or below. It didn't have anything that popped out.
