T.I. - No Mercy

I'm going to let you in on a couple of secrets. Feel very excited that I'm letting you further into my world today. 1) I love rap (okay, that's probably not really much of a secret) 2) I can't stand T.I. anymore. Seriously. This guy dropped 'King' back in 2006 and everything since, has been total trash. This dropped last Tuesday - and I was going to review it for New Music Tuesday, but it didn't have samples, and I'm tired of him. I mean, he keeps making songs about redemption and living life more to the fullest. And it's all lies. It's all record selling jibberish. Be real on your tracks. He's been caught for drugs, guns, and anything else that has a police code attached to it. It's one thing to understand what you're doing is dumb, and that you need to stop - but it's another to keep singing about how you've changed and WON'T do it again, and KEEP DOING IT! I simply don't respect that. And I'm also not on my high horse or something, and refuse to listen to artists who have shady backgrounds, that's not really on my radar. I just don't want to hear him rap about it anymore. This album is about the same. A few more of those type of songs, and then a bunch of crap. This album is just bad. Even if I wasn't already biased, I would listen to half these tracks and want to listen to Ke$ha to cleanse my pallette. Maybe not that bad, but you get the point. I'll keep giving his music chances - because I liked King so much, and to a certain degree, Paper Trail too. But until it shapes up, I'm maintaining my hater status.

  1. Haha, oh goodness, speak ya mind. I don't see you as the "hater" type man.

I feel you on that completely. I listened to King, a little Paper Trail and T.I vs. TIP, never the entirety of any of these albums, I like "What You Know". I tell you, I haven't given up on rap entirely, but geeze, this doesn't make me anymore interested. I haven't fully listened to any rap for about the past 2 years. I listen to instrumentals but it doesn't go beyond that really. Hey, I'm glad he's out, with his children, his wife and things are going OK thus far but I'm with you i just don't see the point in telling us about something you'll do, and then don't. We're all imperfect, that just goes with the territory. Like you, I still give music a chance.

Gotta wait and see I suppose.

  2. Rappers always got the shaft because they'd talk about being drug dealers or stealing or whatever. People hated that. But at least it was real. I mean, TI can talk about how he's cleaned up his act - just listen to 'No Matter What' off Paper Trail. Great song, solid message. Except that it's all BS.

I LOVE rap. Still listen to almost every album that comes out. Some of it's getting better, others (like this) are floundering.
