Apollo 440 - Gettin' High On Your Own Supply
Techno Tuesday sprints back into the limelight with a band that probably every single one of my readers is familiar with. Assuming everyone has seen the film 'Gone In 60 Seconds' - then you more than likely recall Stop The Rock from that. I can't say I know a ton about 440, but I know they've been around a really long time, and I know that they keep putting out music. This one was their third studio recording, and one of their most popular on the UK charts. They sample beats and riffs from everybody under the moon, and turn them into a super upbeat, funky new groove. I think dance music was really brought to the forefront in the late 90's by the bigger acts like Daft Punk and Crystal Method. At that point, I think kids were looking for a very specific type of dance music. And this fit right into that criteria. The shocking thing is, even while trying to appeal to the masses, they also made a really solid record. They didn't give in on the regular principles to make this one. ...and that's nice and refreshing. Beats on this one will surely make you move. It's fun to see if you can spot the sample too. They've got another record coming out this year sometime as well. If you're at all in a dance mood today, check this out. You'll most certainly enjoy it. Happy Tuesday!
