Dirty Heads - Any Port In A Storm

Hello Thursday. Good to see you again. Thursday seemed like a good day to get to yet ANOTHER suggestion from the box. The Dirty Heads were a request from follower JenInTosa. Jen has been known in B Side circles as a Country lover, but a very highly rated recommender. She didn't let me down again this time with these fellas! I do love me some Sublime, and these guys have that reggae type rock similar to Sub. They have sort of an odd background. Just a few guys from California who decided to make some music. They released 'Any Port' back in 2008, and then re-released it in 2010 as this Special Edition with a couple extra tracks on it. That's not really industry standard. Quite odd actually. This is the explanation of how they arrived at their name, "The name comes from an occasion where the two were stealing a 12-pack of beer and had someone shout at them “Come here you little dirty heads!”". Kind of a neat story. They really give a shoutout to Sublime and lead singer Bradley Nowell in track 12. I love it. They seem to know who their influences are and on this record, stay true to form. Hopefully if they ever run a follow up, it's just a true as this one. I do seriously enjoy this record. It's a HAVE TO check out B Siders! Happy Thursday!

  1. Wow... HAVE TO! I am so into this band right now that I MIGHT drive back from Lake Geneva over 4th of July weekend just to see them at Summerfest! I definitely feel some inspiration coming from the Beasie Boys, especially in the 1st track - do you get that too?

    Love 'em!

  2. I LOVED it. Seriously great. I went out and bought it that night. I saw they were playing, and I might actually go to Summerfest for them. I haven't gone in years.

Yeah, Beasties is a good reference too. But I always enjoyed Sublime a lot, and if you liked them, you'll like Dirty Heads.

I'm looking forward to seeing your Top 25 soon. Hope it's not ALL country. ;-)

  3. I have a feeling my top 25 will be all pop dance music. I usually only use my iTunes at home when I am getting ready to go out on the town or when I am having a party. Or it will be all Disney music! :)

If Grooveshark kept count I know these songs would be on it:
    Love Me Tender (Norah Jones)
Ain't No Rest for the Wicked (Cage the Elephant)
    Need You Now (Lady Antebellum)
In One Ear (Cage the Elephant)
    Lay Me Down (Dirty Heads)
    Bust Your Windows (Glee Cast)
I'm Alive (Kenny Chesney with Dave Matthews)

Maybe I'll find some time this weekend to see what my home iTunes says are my most played songs.

  4. What I thought would show up, didn't really go as I thought. Apparently I listen to Justin Timberlake more than I thought. But if you only iTunes during certain times, you're probably right.

Not as much Country as I thought in your self described most played. I like the Cage too! It hasn't been on my iPod long enough for my Top 25.

    Sounds great!

  5. Oh yeah... I forgot that I have The Hangover soundtrack on there too. I bet a song or two from there would be on the list. And the ELF soundtrack... I played that a lot over the holidays!

I think when I "favorite" a song, it automatically gets played a lot (3-4 times a week) but you are probably right... I don't remember what I was listening to 3 months ago... I wish Grooveshark kept count. Would probably surprise me.

  6. What do tigers dream of, when they take a tiger snooze???

It's kind of crazy. Like Shaquanda up there, listening to one album a TON can skew your results. Otherwise like me, a bunch of randomness. It was a fun thing to look at.
