Blink 182 - Enema Of The State

One of my friends is going to the Angels and Airwaves show this weekend in Chicago - so I figured why not review the group that got them started, Blink 182. I wasn't a huge fan of these guys when I was younger. I did listen to this album quite a bit - but that's mainly because you couldn't 10 minutes without hearing Carson Daly talk about it on TRL. I think these guys brought a style to music that no one had really seen yet. They have that poppy, emo, punk sound all combined into one. This album is also unique because it's one of the few records by bands like this that contains real thought out lyrics. Yeah, some of the tracks are just poppy nonsense, but my favorite track has substance as well as a couple others. Sounds like they're going to make another record sometime soon - for the first time since 2003. I'll be curious to listen to it and see if their style has changed since all the crazy things that have happened. I'll get to A&A sometime too...I've never heard anything by them before. Until then, Blink will have to do. Kick your feet up and get some Enema today!

  1. You should tell your friend to be sure to be to the Angels & Airwaves concert in time for the opener, Say Anything. Really good show. Can't comment on Angels & Airwaves though since we left before they came on.

If you haven't checked out the +44 album, definitely do it. Good stuff.

I went and bought this album before I saw Blink last August, but I don't think I've listened to it since. I was informed that I should check out their earlier stuff as it is much better than Enema

  2. Yo Shaqwanda!

She'll certainly be there early as she has VIP passes for the show. She might be backstage during Say Anything though.

Are you referring to 'When Your Heart Stops Beating" by +44? If so, I can put that on my list of things to review!

Yeah, I haven't heard their earlier stuff either. I was thinking I'll check that out before the new album drops.

    Thanks for posting!

  3. There are two things I love about this album...

    #1- This album.
#2- Jeanine, the "nurse" on the cover, is the same chick who made a porn with Vince Neil of Motley Crue. Not that thats necessarily something to be proud of, its still rad. Just saying.

  4. Welcome to the party Tif!

I had no idea she was in porn, nor did I know that Vince Neil was in a porn. Good to know?

I'm not versed well enough with their music, but it seems like they have talent, but their records don't match up to it. I think that's why I like Adam's Song more - because it doesn't seem like a track they made to be popular, but one they made to sing about something they cared about.

  5. Enema of the state is probably the most popular, however, Blink 182 purists appreciate their previous album, Dude Ranch, and even before the Blink days, there was Boxcar Racer. Check it out sometime, its pretty good. My favorite Blink song is "Dammit"... I was actually PISSED when I heard it on various movie soundtracks, but its still really good.

  6. Boxcar Racer, excellent. I'll note them with A&A!

I actually don't know that song, so I'll have to look that up too. I know how hearing it on soundtracks can be disappointing. Hopefully it was at least a good movie.

  7. i submit that 'dammit' and 'josie' are the best blink songs, with 'josie' for the win.

  8. The Angels and Airwaves concert ROCKED!!! Say Anything was a welcome treat as we hadn't heard them before.

Onto Blink182, though. Enema of the State was kind of the "beginning of the end" for Blink. It really blew them up to be on American Pie's soundtrack and I think, ultimately, led to their demise as a group. This album is really good, probably the last true Blink album they made. I am a HUGE blink fan, and agree, that Dude Ranch is their best album. I will say that there is some pretty solid stuff "Cheshire Cat" though. Carousel is a sweet song.

  9. I'll have to check out Dude Ranch. It's really just my ignorance on the subject simply because I never got into their music. Seems like whenever they came out with a new album, something else caught my ear at the time.

I'll have to listen to all the albums, and then I cast my vote for their best song and join the fun!
